Pumps

Pumps may rotate or reciprocate. Rotating pumps are usually well balanced. Nevertheless their elastic support makes sense when these pumps are installed on the upper floor levels inside a building, since in this way vibration and structure borne noise can be avoided.

In addition, spring support will simplify not only the design of the whole system, but also that of the substructure as in this case the remaining dynamic loads would become negligible, if the spring system is properly designed.

Reciprocating pumps cause higher dynamic loads, therefore in case of a spring supported system a fairly big foundation may become necessary to keep the motion response low.
